The Fragrance Foundation Awards are the Oscars of the scent world and the night is keenly watched to see what will win Fragrance of the Year.

Held at the Lincoln Center in New York, perfumers, fashion designers and celebrities gather to hear which scents will pick up a prestigious gong in the most important perfume award ceremony in the world.

Today's top videos

Past winners include Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, YSL and Gucci amongst others, but the Fragrance of the Year award is one of the most important. And it was a surprise to see an affordable but very different scent pick up that gong. I rated it as my top perfume release in 2023 and have been wearing it on rotation with my favourite which costs three times as much.

Other winners at the Scent Oscars included Tom Ford's heavenly Vanilla Sex EDP for Fragrance of the Year, Universal - Luxury, and Valentino's Born in Roma Donna won for Best Women's Luxury.

Celebrity scent also got a look in, with Billie Eilish's Eilish No.3 winning the category of Consumer Choice a year after her Eilish No.2 won the same award. Even the fragrance of the moment Sol De Janeiro's Rio Radiance got nominated for Fragrance of the Year but it didn't beat the winner - my top scent of the last year.

Fragrance of the Year

The winning scent of Fragrance of the Year was Burberry's Goddess EDP, (€77 for 30ml) an utterly delicious fragrance. Created by Master Perfumer, Amandine Clerc-Marie, the refillable Aromatic Gourmand has a first-of-its-kind vanilla trio inside. The ingredient has been trending all year and it's a lovely note in scent.

Three distinct vanilla extractions - an infusion, caviar and vanilla absolute come together in harmony to create a scent that is sexy, woody, sweet and rich. Other notes include lavender, cocoa and ginger notes to balance the vanilla trio and it is a stunning blend to wear. We aren't remotely surprised it won Fragrance of the Year last the prestigious awards, we imagine it will fly off the shelves with the news.
