It was such a great time volunteering at the AS Watson Project LOL Elderly Visit 2023 last Sunday. We sent gifts and chatted with the elderly. It was so heartwarming to see their #smile and hear their stories. The event reminds us of the importance of companionship and caring for the elderly. Being part of the Operation Smile mission has truly been a meaningful and inspiring experience.My journey as a mission volunteer started with the AS Watson Next Gen Sustainability Committee programme. The Programme brings together people all around the world who want to provide younger generations' perspective on the Group #sustainability roadmap, and contribute to concrete Sustainability projects. Joining the Operation Smile mission is one of our life-changing projects.According to the Operation Smile website, millions of children around the world live with untreated cleft conditions. This greatly impacts their ability on eating, breathing and speaking. Additionally, most of them are not being accepted by many of their peers and communities. And what I want to do in this mission is to bring them #hope and create brighter futures for them.During the Operation Smile mission, there was a little girl who impressed me the most. The little girl came with her mother. When I saw her, she had no expression. Our team took her photo, and I used toys to get her attention to make sure we got the photo right. Afterward, we gave her a toy. Then I saw her playing the toy with a #smile on her face while waiting for the next session.Children her age should have so many possibilities, so many to explore and experience, and should have a brighter future. But there is a group of children in the world who are excluded. This really breaks my heart.I truly hope this mission can continue and change the lives of more children. I also want to spread the word about this mission with my friends and family, and hope that more people will be inspired by this life-changing project.Finally, I would like to thank AS Watson, Watsons Philippines, Malina NGAI, Sebastien Pivet, Zoe Cheong, Mina Chung and Victoria Shiu for organising this wonderful mission and giving us this valuable opportunity.
