It’s rare for sci-fi to meet comedy in a TV show, but when it happens you get a delicious show like Resident Alien.
First debuted in 2021, the popular SYFY comedy series is based on the comics of the same name by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. The plot follows an alien (Allen Tudyk) who crash-lands on Earth on a mission to destroy all human life.
However, upon assuming the identity of a physician – Harry Vanderspeigle – he begins to make friends along the way and reconsiders hurting a species he grows to care for. What unfolds is a laughter riot that has enthralled fans with three seasons so far.
The series premiered the finale episode of season 3 just recently, leaving fans wanting more and rooting for Resident Alien season 4.
‘Resident Alien’ season 4: Is it happening?
So far, neither the streamer nor the creator has announced that Resident Alien is getting renewed for season 4. But since season 3 has just ended, there could be an announcement soon. Interestingly, season 3 was renewed before season 2 even ended which means official word on the next season could also come soon.
That said, the showrunner behind SYFY’s Resident Alien, Chris Sheridan, at WonderCon 2024, divulged some details on what he would like to explore in a potential season 4.
Speaking with The Geekiary Sheridan teased, “There’s a lot going on in the finale that is going to dictate where it goes. But I love that we’re embracing more of the alien stuff. I want to expand the alien universe a little bit and ground it as much as possible. I think that’s one of the keys to the show working, which is you have this big, broad alien stuff but it also feels real in its own way.”
Sheridan also hinted that even if Greys, the hostile alien species, are defeated by the end of season 3, the heroes still won’t be out of the woods. This means the popular showis yet to receive a proper send-off, leaving enough room for more seasons to follow.
Who could be in the cast of ‘Resident Alien’ season 4?
The main cast of Resident Alien is likely to come back in season 4 if it is renewed. This means Alan Tudyk will be leading the show as the alien who pretends to be Harry Vanderspeigle and Sara Tomko will reprise her role of Patience local Asta Twelvetrees.
It’s unclear whether Linda Hamilton will continue to stay in the spotlight as General McCallister, but she will likely return for sure. Apart from them, Alice Wetterlund would be back as D’Arcy Bloom, the owner of the town pub and Gary Farmer as Dan Twelvetrees, Asta’s adoptive father who owns the town’s diner, Joe’s Diner.

Well, if Harry wraps up his battle with the Grey Aliens by the end of season 3, another extraterrestrial threat might emerge in the next season to threaten the humans he has started becoming fond of. Along with that, much like the previous instalments fans can expect season 4 to see Harry still struggling to fit in on Earth.
That said, Sheridan at the WonderCon 2024 also hinted that Harry may mature out of his early teen stage in the next seasons and expand his friend circle. However, the showrunner hopes for the show to retain its fun relatability.
“The message that I’d like to get out there is that we’re best as humans when we learn to love each other and support each other no matter how different we are. So, I think that’s one of the reasons that it becomes relatable, because it stops being just an alien coming into this world and feels almost like an immigrant story of someone who might not fit in coming into a new culture or new town and what they have to deal with,” he concluded.
