Can anyone recommend mechanics able to work on Vanagons in the greater Hudson Valley area? I don't need one at the moment, but would like to just bookmark options for the future. Would be good to know of anyone between Albany and Westchester and maybe out to Danbury, for reference. Many thanks! |

I'll guess that a certain persons name will come up. Send me a PM and I'll give you my personal experience and also the way that person spoke of his customers, during the 3 years I delt with him. I'd hate to see another VW owner fall for the BS. _________________ '86 2wd Poptop transplant FAS TDi engine swap. Peloquin LSD |

Prior to being banned, his member name was Insyncro I believe. His posts were entertaining to some. Frustrating to others. No experience with him personally. _________________ ☮️ |

I HIGHLY recommend Andrew Flint! I'm not sure exactly where he's at, but I believe he's about an hour from East Durham. Myself and a few friends frequently go to the Catskills for elaborate bus projects, buying derelict Vanagons, fixing them where they lie, and driving them irresponsibly home about 600 miles from there. So depending on what you need, we're up there a few times a year if you get in a pinch. But on almost all of these expeditions, Andrew comes out and joins us- and that guy is one of the best vanagon mechanics in North America. Seriously! I've got a ton of experience fixing lots and lots of vanagons over the years, by many people's standards- I know what I'm doing. If you're out that way, join us for a big "maker" event I help put on every October, we're slowly and secretly converting it to a bus event (not really, it's like 1000 person event.... there's like 5 or 7 of us in busses- but we have a dedicated camping area!) "The Catskill Mountain Maker's Camp" Get Andrew to fix your bus, you'll be happy you made that choice! "Along with the ability to go fast, one looses the desire to hurry." |

I purchased my van in 2020 from a small town in CT. The previous owner had some work done at Motorworks in Millerton, NY. The Owner, Alex, had a syncro and was very familiar with vans, especially the one I was buying. I had him do a light PPI for me, which I didn't have an appointment for, but Alex graciously took about 30 minutes of his time and looked over my van, talked to me, and told me what I should replace immediately and what I should plan on replacing. I made a mental note to go see him if my van ever needed anything, even though his shop is over an hour away from me. |

Thanks so much for the recommendation. That's kind of in the boonies, but great to have a solid recommendation for when the time comes that I need something serious, I can get up there if need be. @Phishman068, your event looks like fun. I'll check in with you closer to that time. I'm down a little south from there in the heart of the HV.
Thanks so much, Millerton is a little closer to me, that's a great tip. Any other recommendations for guys who work on VubledeeDoubledees- doesn't have to be a Vanagon expert - would be great to have any backup options. Just for some basic stuff when I can't get the bolts off, people pretty much hang up on me when I say "Vanagon" lol. |
